Becoming a disciple: Discerning between spirits

Scripture – 2 Corinthians 11:14-15

And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness.

Satan is the cunning snake. He is the father of lies. He is full of deception. He disguises himself as an angel of light (though he is the chief angel of darkness). His servants (both the demonic spirits and those men and women who are not submitted to the authority of Christ) are also bent on deceit. They even disguise themselves as servants of righteousness.

Anyone, including the evil one and his followers, can look like a servant of righteousness, knowing all the right things to say, and being all together outwardly holy.

They cannot, however, have the Holy Spirit.

The Bible talks about many things dealing with this issue of false brothers, false apostles, false prophets – but one specific thing comes to mind.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control.

The fruit of an unholy spirit is: hatred, sorrow, pride, impatience, unkindness, spite, roughness, unfaithfulness and lack of self-control.

We can judge the fruit.

Dad, thank you for sending your Holy Spirit. Thank you Holy Spirit for living in me, transforming my heart and mind each day into the heart and mind of Christ. Give me discernment today to see you at work and where the enemy is trying to deceive. Jesus be exalted today. In your name, amen.
