Scripture – Matthew 14:34-36
And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
Just recognizing that Jesus was there sent the people into a frenzy, sending them out in all directions to gather the sick so that they might touch the fringe of Jesus’ robe. What faith!
There was no question of trying to convince the people who were sick to come, no slick marketing scheme needed, no charismatic spokesman required. What’s interesting is that it was the MEN who, upon recognizing Jesus, took their place as leaders of the community and sent for all those who were sick. Just seeing Jesus and knowing that he was only passing through propelled them into action.
We have Jesus with us all day every day. Are we propelled into action to bring the sick, the lost, the oppressed?
I want greater faith. I want to have the faith of those men of Gennesaret. I want those who are sick to know that Jesus is at our church.
Jesus, increase my faith. Jesus, propel me into faith-fueled action. Jesus, let people come and touch your robe and receive healing and forgiveness in your name. Amen.
