Becoming a disciple: Seeing Jesus in the everyday

Scripture – Isaiah 9:2, 6

The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shined.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We all walk in darkness and we all need a light. We cannot muster up the light ourselves. This is why God sent Jesus, his Son, to be the light not just for a few of us but for the whole world. The responsibility of paying the price, and making sure justice was served, was put on his shoulders. This ultimately led to his death which paid for our punishment, taking our place. His resurrection enabled us to accept Jesus as our atoning sacrifice both for our past sins and the sins were are yet to commit.

Jesus you are so alive! I need to live even more aware of your literal presence. Everywhere I go, everything I do, every thought I have, every word I speak – there you are…literally standing right besides me. You are right next to me now as I write this. I need to have my eyes and my heart trained to see you amidst the busyness and the distractions of life.

Father, help me see Jesus today. Amen.
