Becoming a disciple: Inviting those who don’t feel worthy

Scripture – Matthew 19:14

But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Imagine being one of those kids. The one everyone wanted to get close to, Jesus, explicitly tells his disciples to let you come to him and not to hinder you. That would have felt amazing. In a culture where kids were seen and not heard, this would have felt totally strange. Then Jesus says, “the kingdom of Heaven belongs to you”. This would have rocked your world as a kid. Wow.

I want to be counter cultural. I want to live like Jesus and invite those who don’t feel worthy into the kingdom. I want to be part of a church that explicitly speaks truth into people’s lives, telling them that the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as them.

Father, help me be aware of those you are calling me to invite into the kingdom and those you are asking me to speak truth into – though at first they don’t feel worthy. Help me see the world through your eyes. Thank you for your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
